• Welcome!

The purpose of this site is to aquaint you with our imprint and to tell you about the books we sell. In an excess of reticence, perhaps, we keep the commercial pitch behind the green tabs above. Using them you can learn about us, our products, and other matters.

What you see in front of you is our blog—a free-wheeling discussion about books, reading, literature, language, and much else likely to interest our customers—people who read books. Please comment and participate.

And we'd really love it if you would buy our books.

Join Us in Our ConFusion

ConFusion is a Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention held every year in Southeastern Michigan. It is the oldest Sci-Fi and Fantasy Convention in the state. This year’s event marks the 36th recurrence of ConFusion—the official kind. Confusion, with the standard spelling, is a daily thing for us. The Ann Arbor Science Fiction Association sponsors the convention. To learn more about it, check out this link.

Conventions of this type come in at least two flavors. Some are heavily fan-oriented, social; others cater to publishers and commerce. ConFusion is a fan-based event but has distinguished itself by always including panels on the actual state of science and experimentation and also offering speakers from NASA.

Sci-Fi Conventions share traits with all kinds of conventions: well-known guest speakers, for example. In the Sci-Fi/Fantasy tribes these speakers are usually authors, actors and/or artists. Organized panel discussions are another feature of most Sci-Fi conventions although the audience is often dressed in more, shall we say, flamboyant ways. Sessions for authors to do signings and readings are common as are masquerade balls. Movie showings, Filk, concerts, parties and dances are also part of the fun. And, of course, dealer rooms, sales halls— Huckster Rooms, in sf parlance—are standard fixtures. Huckster rooms sell all manner of science fiction and fantasy objects ranging from books, paintings, and posters to a variety of otherworldly items (but physical, of course, and costing real dollars). Yes, the Huckster room now brings us to today’s announcement…

Dwarf Planet Press will be displaying, talking about, and selling its first two novels at the upcoming ConFusion Convention in Troy, Michigan, on January 22-24, 2010.

Our  author will be there, of course, at our booth, much of the time—when he is not required as a panelist. Your program will tell you about panels.

We hope meet a lot of people and learn a lot about their likes, dislikes, and what they’re reading now. And we hope to sell some books. So many things are happening. E-books, movies, TV shows. How do fans view the clash between media and paper? Do they see it as a clash at all? We look forward to this encounter with the customer. It ought to be fun. If you are in the area, come and meet us. These conventions are always interesting and make for thoroughly enjoyable people watching! Mark your calendars!

  1. Orbs, orbs, orbs…I love them.

  2. Ain’t in the area.
Ain’t got no cash, ain’t got no time, ain’t got no plane, ain’t got no school, ain’t got clean underwear, ain’t got no ticket, ain’t got no token, ain’t got no dog!
But I’d come anyway if I had dragon and some zerofric.
